The new equipment includes Thales’ ETCS Level 2 automatic train protection system as well as GSM-R communications, which will increase the capacity of the Ankara-Istanbul high-speed line, for whose equipment Thales Spain has been awarded contracts for more than 400 km of double-track sections.
Thales Spain delivered signalling and telecommunications solutions for the 256 km Hasanbey-Esenkent section and is currently deploying signalling systems for a total of 180 km of other sections of the line.
Designed for speeds of up to 250 km/h, the first phase of the Ankara-Istanbul line was brought into commercial service with Thales Spain’s equipment in March 2009.
