The Cobelec Rail Baltica consortium, formed by the companies Elecnor and Cobra, has been awarded the contract for the design and construction of the electrification subsystem in the Rail Baltica project.

The RB Rail AS contract awarded to the Cobelec Rail Baltica consortium includes the electrification of 870 kilometres of railway and over 2,400 kilometres of tracks in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The first stage, with a budget of EUR 949 million, is expected to be completed in 2030. Rail Baltica will pioneer in this project the large-scale application of Static Frequency Converter (SFC) technology combined with 2x25kV in a 50 Hz system, powered by ten traction substations.
