The new section of line 9, the only automated line of all the Spanish metro networks and the largest in Europe, links Barcelona Airport’s T1 terminal with Zona Universitaria.

The new section, which is almost 20 km long and has 15 fully accessible stations, is called L9 Sud, while the already existing section that covers the towns of Santa Coloma de Gramanet and Badalona, from Sagrera to Can Zam, is known as L9 Nord. The route between Sagrera and Gorg, where it links with line 2, will be still known as L10.

Trains on the new service will run every 7 minutes on working days; the frequency of trains between some stations being decreased to less than 4 minutes during important events that bring together large numbers of people at the airport or fairs to which they provide service.
