(28/04/2016)   The project forms part of the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T). In particular, it is part of the Atlantic Corridor linking Lisbon and Madrid with Paris, and complies with the European directive on the interoperability of the high-speed trans-European railway system.

This section will improve the connectivity between Madrid, the Extremadura region and Lisbon while at the same time increasing the safety of the line and its capacity for passengers and goods, in addition to reducing their travelling times.

The co-funding of this project is part of the 2007-2013 programming period, for which Spain has been allocated more than €35 billion, to which another €28.6 billion are added for the 2014-2020 period.
