The winning consortium was selected in an international tender process involving 10 consortiums from around the world, of which five submitted bids.
The awarding is worth €2.6 billion and work on the project is expected to begin at the end of this year so that the new line will be ready in late 2019.
With this project Dubai’s current metro network will be extended by 15 km, of which 11.8 km will be viaduct and 3.2 km will be underground.
The new line will consist of seven stations, including an interchange with the existing Red Line. The rolling stock and the electromechanical equipment will be supplied by Alstom.
