The first run between the Chinese city and the Spanish capital took place in November 2014 encouraged by the Fiye Foundation. This body, financed by Yiwu’s local government and which has its headquarters in the Madrid-Abroñigal terminal where trains coming from the Asian country finish their journey, promotes this commercial relation between both countries.
The more than 13,000 kilometres that separate Yiwu from Madrid are covered by this rail freight service in order to reach Spain’s capital city with Chinese products and return with Spanish ones. A total of 16 days per journey and a cost of 1,800 dollars per container make this initiative an interesting alternative to sea transport.
