Railgrup’s conference explored the possibilities offered by Australia, whose land area and the strong population growth over the last few years suggests the need to develop the railway in all its segments: long distance, regional and urban.
Nowadays, the governments of the Australian states where most of the country’s population is concentrated are allocating billions of Australian dollars for rail projects, especially metro and tram systems. The aim is to ease congestion in the country’s main cities -Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth- and encourage the development of smaller metropolitan areas such as Canberra, Parramatta and Newcastle, among others.
