A consortium formed by Ferrovial and Keolis will operate and maintain Manchester’s tram network

(09/02/2017)

Amey and Keolis, which have been operating and maintaining the Docklands Light Railway in East London since 2014, will now be responsible for the Greater Manchester’s metropolitan area’s network for a period of up to 10 years.

The consortium, where Amey has a 40% stake, will be in charge of a network of almost 60 miles (about 96 km) of track comprising seven lines and 93 stops, served by 120 trains in which free Wi-Fi will be offered.

The contract will come into force in July 2017, once Metrolink’s most recent expansion project is completed. During the term of the contract, the construction of the Trafford Park Line will take place, expected to begin operating around 2020 or 2021.
