OGI´s variable gauge axles successfully pass bench testing phase

The consortium comprised of Azvi, Tria and OGI has completed the first phase of bench testing of OGI´s variable gauge axles for freight trains.

OGI´s variable gauge axles successfully pass bench testing phase

(06/04/2017)
Testing consisted of applying 6 million cycles with a load of 33.75 tons per axle, 150% above maximum nominal load. After dismantling and checking the axles, the bench tests will be completed by applying another 4 million cycles, with a load of up to 170% of the nominal load, in order to check the performance of the axles under extreme load conditions over their entire useful life.

Meanwhile, the variable gauge axle switcher developed by the Azvi-Tria consortium is already installed in the assembly base at Gineta in Albacete, where tests are being carried out. Once commercial service starts, the system will solve the problem of changing track gauge in freight traffic, both in Spain and in the large cross-border axes.
