The consortium will perform the detailed engineering studies in a period of 12 months and will provide technical support during the execution of the works. The new streetcar is scheduled to open in 2020. The amount planned for the execution of the work is 177 million dollars (about 165 million euros).

The project involves the design of a new 4.8 km light rail line with 14 stops, which will link Phoenix light rail network with the University area and the new urban developments in the north of Tempe. The possibility that the streetcar operates without catenary in a section of approximately one kilometre in the centre of the city will also be analysed.

This contract is part of Valley Metro and the cities of Tempe and Phoenix infrastructure plan, which will extend the existing light rail network from the current 41 to 105 kilometres in 2034.
