Ferrovial to upgrade two sections of a railway line in Poland



Budimex, Ferrovial’s Polish subsidiary, will upgrade two sections of line 7 of Polish Railways (PKP PLK) which link Warsaw and Dorohusk with the Ukrainian border. Work is expected to be completed in 2020.

The two contracts are worth a total of over 986 million zlotys, equivalent to 233 million euros. In the first section of line, which is 51.7 kilometres long and runs from Pilawa to Dęblin, Budimex will install new rails and overhead power lines, create a control system and build or upgrade 38 structures, including bridges, overpasses, underpasses, tunnels and sewers.

It will also build new platforms that are adapted to persons with reduced mobility, and buildings for rail traffic management and track maintenance. This contract is to be completed in 22 months.

In the second section, which is 30 kilometres long and connects Otwock to Pilawa, Budimex and Ferrovial Agroman will upgrade 74 kilometres of track and modernise the Otwock, Celestynów and Pilawa stations.

They will also build 18 platforms, 87 sidings and two signalling posts, upgrade 22 structures and 12 level crossings, and modernise the electrical system, overhead lines and water and sewer infrastructure.
