The project has managed to coordinate the signalling principles applied to the new station with Egyptian National Railways (ENR) and Systra, using the experience gained in operating Quesna station, which was launched in December 2016.
Following the completion of the Berket el Sabaa section, the Etay El Barood and Kafr el Zayat stations will also be launched with Thales technology. The works are progressing and software testing at the first of the stations is already under way.
The project
The project involves the renovation of the signalling and telecommunications systems, the replacement of all the interlockings of the line with electronic interlockings, and the installation of a Centralised Traffic Control system.
Thales will also renovate track and cabling equipment, and install automatic level crossings, point motors and energy supply systems. It will also be in charge of the construction of technical buildings and the implementation of the communications system and associated civil works. The project is expected to be concluded between the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, and the entire line up to Aswan modernised by 2022.
