The entrance into commercial service between Sheffield Cathedral and Rotherham Parkgate of these tram-trains is scheduled for 2018, once work at infrastructure is completed.

In June 2013 South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive acquired seven Citylink vehicles to operate the first tram-train system in the UK, connecting Supertram tram network with the railway network without the need to transfer.

Stadler’s Citylink units cover from urban applications to regional train operations at 100 km/h, and they have been adapted to the characteristics of the tram and railway networks in the South Yorkshire county.
