The contract, which amounts to about 200 million euros, includes twelve 2-car trains and fourteen 4-car trains, and it is part of an investment plan of about 1 billion pounds (around 1.130 billion euros) that the recently granted franchise comprised of Abellio, Japan East Railway Company and Mitsui & Co is going to roll out over the coming years.

The new trains to be designed, supplied and maintained by CAF will be equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and in-seat power sockets in all the vehicles, thus improving service conditions for passengers. These new units will offer greater capacity than the current ones and will also improve frequency, speed and reliability.
