Besides Talgo, the companies Alstom, Bombardier, Hitachi and Siemens are also competing for this process which has a budget of 2,750 million pounds sterling (about 3,080 million euros). The winner will be in charge of the design, construction and maintenance of a minimum of 54 trains that will enter service in 2026.
In its Avril project, Talgo has invested over 50 million euros in R+D+I for the last eight years to develop a very high-speed platform, lighter as well as energy-efficient and sustainable, which won the contract for the supply of 30 new high-speed trains for Renfe eleven months ago.
Talgo, which recently confirmed its intention to implement a long-term industrial plan in the United Kingdom, is confident that it will enter the UK market, where a growing demand for more capacity as well as the different tenders in progress offer possibilities not only in the sector of high-speed trains but also in regional and commuter vehicles.
