CAF to supply 30 trains for Amsterdam Metro

GVB Activa, Amsterdam’s public transport operator, has awarded CAF the supply of 30 three-car metros, designated M7, for the city’s metro system. The contract includes the option for up to 30 additional units as well as the possibility to extend to six the number of cars of each unit.

The metros that will replace the older units still in service can be coupled in pairs of two resulting in a six-car train, and will be prepared for driverless operation. The vehicles will be fitted with passenger information systems and designed to be energy efficient and easy to maintain.

Back in 1994 CAF was awarded a contract for the supply of 37 units for Amsterdam's metro network, already in service since 1996, and in 2016 GVB awarded CAF a contract for the supply of 63 trams, a project currently in execution.
