The first train supplied by CAF, out of a total of 18 units that will operate the first line of Quito Metro in Ecuador, has arrived at Manta port city, to the west of the country.

The first metro line of Ecuador’s capital city is expected to enter service by the end of 2019 and will connect Quitumbe, in the south of Quito, to El Labrador, in the north of the city, in just 34 minutes. Line 1 of Quito Metro will have 15 stations and cover 23 kilometres, serving around 400,000 users on a daily basis.
The vehicles manufactured by CAF have wide walk-through gangways as well as areas for people with reduced mobility. With a length of over 109 metres, each trainset has six cars with four doors on each side of the car, offering wide aisles and Wi-Fi access.
Total passenger capacity is 1,259 people, of which 144 can be seated. The units, which incorporate two motor cars, will be capable of reaching a maximum speed of 100 km/h.
