Comsa to build branch line to connect Port of Veracruz in Mexico

COMSA has been awarded the contract for the construction of a nearly three kilometres long double-track branch line that will connect the Port of Veracruz with the adjacent town of Santa Fe, in Mexico.

The new section, equipped with concrete sleepers, will run through uninhabited areas in order to reduce the number of accidents and obstructions resulting from freight trains passing through the city of Veracruz. The contract also includes clearing work, ballast supply and additional civil engineering works.

Port of Veracruz has already exceeded its manoeuvring capacity. The new railway connection will provide a way of communication to the north of the country, decongesting the entry and exit of goods and allowing the port authority to offer a greater number of related logistics operations.
