Stadler Valencia to supply 71 new trains in United Kingdom

(29/03/2019)

The three-car CITYLINK tram-trains, entirely developed and manufactured at Stadler plant in Valencia, will be capable of running on 25 kV overhead electric wire as well as battery power.

Of the 35 FLIRT units 11 will be diesel-operated and used on South Wales network. The other 24 FLIRT units will be capable of running on diesel, overhead electric wires and battery power. This tri-mode fleet, whose entry into service in Cardiff is expected for 2023, consists of seven three-car and 17 four-car trains.

Wales & Borders plans to operate on electric traction to the north of Cardiff and diesel to the south, so that the use of tri-mode trains will guarantee a cross-city connection.
