The units, composed of a diesel-electric locomotive, a technical car and 14 passenger cars, will provide service on the route that connects the cities of Alexandria in the Mediterranean with the capital, Cairo, and the southern city of Aswan. The contract includes the integral maintenance of the units for at least eight years.

The new trains, which will be operated at a maximum commercial speed of 160 km/h, will have capacity for 492 passengers distributed between first and second class, a cafeteria, and spaces specifically designed for travellers with reduced mobility.

The interior of the vehicles has been designed based on the experience in high comfort long-distance trains and services such as those supplied for the Mecca-Medina high speed line in Saudi Arabia, with indoor climate control for extreme temperatures, Wi-Fi, and information and entertainment systems with LED screens in each of the seats located in first class.
