This new stretch, between York Place and Newhaven, will be 4.7 kilometres long and will have eight stops. It will extend the tram line to the north of the city, a line which currently connects the airport with Haymarket and Princes Street stations in the city centre. When it begins to operate, the new line connecting the airport with the northern area of Newhaven will serve 16 million people per year.

The works of the project, whose total budget stands at 207 million pounds (around 241.5 million euros), will begin in September and will last for 40 months, so that the new section can enter service at the beginning of 2023.
