The Forum was attended by representatives of public and private companies and organizations, both Portuguese and Spanish, involved in the development of the Iberian Southwest Corridor as the main axis of the Trans-European Transport Network and the connection between Madrid and Lisbon, as well as between the Atlantic ports and their Iberian hinterland.

The meeting provided an opportunity to quantify the possibilities for development and economic and social growth of the areas concerning the Iberian Southwest Corridor, and to propose the milestones for the development of the infrastructures and communications that will allow a socioeconomic transformation in the 2021-2030 period.

A good part of the Forum was focused on the International South Corridor, which will enable the railway connection between the south of Portugal and its ports of Sines, Setúbal and Lisbon with Spain and the rest of Europe. Once in service, the Corridor will make it possible to increase the current daily capacity of 36 trains of 400 metres to 51 trains of 750 metres, use electric traction along the whole route, reduce travel times, and improve safety thanks to the installation of ERTMS and GSM-r.
