Renfe to operate high-speed rail services in France from December 2020

Renfe Operadora’s Board of Directors approved the company’s entry into high-speed rail in France to compete at high speed with its own services and resources, in a first phase that will start in December 2020.

Renfe to operate high-speed rail services in France from December 2020

(24/07/2019)

Renfe Operadora has already requested the necessary permits from the French authorities, in particular the regulatory authority for rail activities ARAFER, the railway safety authority EPSF, and the infrastructure manager SNCF Reseau. The company has requested permits from this organization to reach Paris stations, but due to technical difficulties and the imposed requirements, the operation of services in the French capital will be developed in a second phase.

Renfe will operate these services with S100 trains, manufactured by Alstom and already approved to operate in French territory, and it is also working in the authorization of the S106 trains, more efficient and with greater capacity. As part of its international expansion plan, Renfe will establish a permanent office in France based in Lyon in the near future.
