CAF to supply 28 medium and long distance trains to French Railways

CAF is to provide French Railways (SNCF) with 28 medium and long distance multiple units for the Paris-Clermont-Ferrand and Paris-Limoges-Toulouse lines. The awarding includes options for a maximum of 75 additional trains, 15 of which could provide service on the Bordeaux-Marseille railway axis.

(10/10/2019)

The medium and long distance units will be able to run at a top speed of 200 km/h and will offer ergonomic seats, total accessibility both from platforms and inside the train, Wi‐Fi, power outlets and USB ports, storage areas for ten bicycles, and cart catering.

The new trains, which will enter revenue service starting in 2023, will gradually replace Corail trains and their locomotives, some of which are over 40 years old. CAF‘s units will substantially improve the quality of the offer on these lines.

These Intercity trains, whose cost is close to €700 million, will be built in CAF’s industrial sites in Bagnères‐de‐Bigorre, in the French department of Hautes-Pyrénées, and Beasain, in Spain.
