Each 3-car unit is equipped with six of these doors, and Masats will also offer support for the comprehensive CAF maintenance contract, which will cover a period of 19 years. The doors have been tested for minimum durability of 1.5 million cycles, with a sandwich design that enhances the thermal and acoustic insulation. They also feature special rubber strips for the blind.
The Masats doors include an optical detection curtain, contact-sensitive rubber edges, engine overuse and “encoder” position detection, and an antidrag system to prevent people from getting stuck or dragged if the door traps any type of very thin object such as a handbag strap. They can resist aerodynamic pressure waves that occur when trains cross each other at 160 km/h.
The nine trains that will cover the route between the towns of Böblingen, Holzgerlingen and Dettenhausen, in suburban Stuttgart, have a capacity of 212 passengers and include reserved areas for people with reduced mobility as well as wide aisles. Their maximum speed is 100 km/h.
