The ALTRAC Light Rail consortium, comprised of Alstom, Transdev, Acciona and Capella, has been responsible for the design, delivery and commissioning of an integrated light rail system and its maintenance for 19 years.

The new 12 km line connects Circular Quay in the city’s central business district to Central Station, and then south east to Randwick. It is served by 60 Citadis X05 light rail vehicles and has Hesop energy recovery substations.

The line, which can carry up to 6,750 passengers per hour in each direction, will be operational seven days a week between 5 a.m. and 1 a.m.. As part of the contract, the consortium has also taken over the operations and maintenance of the Inner West Light rail that connects Sydney’s west with the Pyrmont peninsula, Darling Harbour and the southern central business district. Twelve CAF light rail vehicles serve this line.
