The SAFER-LC project, funded by the European Commission as part of the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, aims to improve safety and minimize risk by developing an integrated set of innovative solutions and tools for the proactive management and design of level-crossing infrastructure.
SAFER-LC provides recommendations on technical specifications, human processes but also on the organizational and legal framework when implementing the proposed solutions. The most relevant information collected and produced during the development of the project will be available publicly in the SAFER-LC toolbox. This toolbox will be accessible through a user-friendly interface which will integrate all the project results and solutions to help both rail and road managers to improve safety at level crossings. The content will be assembled in several stages, with systematic evaluations at each stage by experts from inside and outside the consortium.
At this ninth edition, the members of the consortium met with relevant actors in the field of level crossing to present the current contents of the toolbox and evaluate it considering different use cases with the aim of providing recommendations that improve its content and usability. The members of the consortium, under the coordination of the International Union of Railways (UIC), have agreed on the following steps to take and the future actions for dissemination.
