The 9.6 million euros include, in addition to the price of the units, spare parts, wheel profiling and training of Kenya Railways personnel by SFM staff. The Kenyan company will pay 20% of the amount upon signature of the contract and the rest upon transfer of the units.

The intention is that trains start operating in a couple of months. These units will be put into service on five suburban lines that originate in the capital, Nairobi, and are expected to serve about two more decades on this network. With these trains, Kenya Railways aims to increase the current capacity of 13,000 passengers to 132,000 passengers/day by 2022.
