Azvi to modernise Espinho-Vila Nova de Gaia rail section in Portugal



The consortium formed by DST and Azvi has been awarded the complete modernisation of the 17 km Espinho-Vila Nova de Gaia rail section on the Portuguese railway network for an amount of 55.3 million euros.

The project includes the complete modernisation of the track superstructure, works at Granja and Vila Nova de Gaia stations, the replacement of an 8 km catenary as well as the elimination of all level crossings along the section.

In addition, the selected consortium will extend and raise the platforms to access stations and stops, build two sidings that are 750 m in length and will increase the capacity of freight transport, and it will also install new drainage systems and a traction power return system.
