The Construction Consortium Ferrocarril Central (Consorcio Constructor del Ferrocarril Central) has awarded Amurrio this contract for the supply of track devices for the Uruguay Central Railroad Project, which involves the rehabilitation of 273 km of the railway line connecting the city of Paso de los Toros, in the centre of the country, and the Port of Montevideo, in the south.

The contract has a term for completion of three months and will come into effect next October, when the first lot of 10 units leaves Amurrio’s plant. From then on and with similar rate, the production will be being completed until November 2021.

The new track devices, whose manufacture will begin after the summer, will enable freight trains to travel at a maximum speed of 80 km/h and carry 22.5 t by axis. The devices, of the conventional type, will have a length of 33 metres and will be manufactured from laminated steel and with manganese steel crossings. The number of components of the devices has been cut down by 30%, which will reduce maintenance needs.
