The first eleven units of this order, five locomotives fitted with standard gauge and six with Iberian gauge, will be delivered during the second half of 2021. The five locomotives that have standard gauge will be certified for the Spanish, French and Luxembourg networks, which will allow those units to be utilized for hauling trains from Spain to Central Europe.

The remaining six units will be the first of a batch equipped with Iberian gauge and are aimed to operate heavy freight trains in Spain on the new 25kV electrified lines, and in particular, through the soon to be opened Pajares tunnel.

The locomotives, which will be entirely manufactured at Stadler’s plant in Albuixech, are part of the company’s Eurodual locomotive family and will be capable of hauling freight trains of up to 1,800 gross tonnes in the new Mediterranean Corridor infrastructure.
