The consortium, composed of Ferrovial’s construction subsidiary and local construction company Alberto Couto Alves, has been selected as preferred bidder for the extension of Porto Metro in two different contracts that amount to €288 million.

The first contract involves the extension of the Yellow line with a new 3.15 km section in the form of dual-track light rail, which will connect Santo Olvido station with the districts of Vila Nova de Gaia, Mafamude e Vilar do Paraiso, Oliveira do Douro and Vilar do Andorinho. This contract also includes the construction of a viaduct, a 770-metre tunnel, and three stations.

The second contract refers to the construction of a new circular line measuring 3.1 kilometres, between Praça da Liberdade and Casa da Música. This new Pink line involves the construction of four new stations.

Works are expected to begin in the second half of this year. The Yellow Line extension is to be completed in 34 months, while the construction of the Pink line is to take at most 42 months.
