A consortium led by Ayesa to supervise implementation of Line 1 of Bogotá Metro

Empresa Metro de Bogotá has awarded the consortium Primera Línea del Metro de Bogotá (PLMB), led by Ayesa, the supervision services contract for Colombia’s capital city’s first metro system, the construction and operation of which will require a 3,500-million-dollar budget (around 2,950 million euros).

The consortium, led by Ayesa and comprised of engineering company Italferr from FS Group (Italian Railways), Milan Metro and the local company MAB, will carry out the project over the next eleven years, with the contract covering the preliminary phase (design supervision) through to the construction, manufacturing, testing and commissioning phases, as well as its operation over the first two years.

The first line of the Bogotá Metro will have 16 stations spread over 23.9 kilometres, and will be able to transport 72,000 passengers per hour in each direction, meeting a demand of more than a million passengers each day. The project is especially important given the fact that Bogotá, with a population of 8 million, is one of the world’s most congested cities.
