Acciona-Daelim consortium to build section of line that links Malolos with Clark International Airport in the Philippines

The consortium formed by Acciona and the Korean group Daelim will build a second section of the railway line that will connect the city of Malolos in the Philippines with Clark International Airport, 80 kilometres north of Manila, the country’s capital city.

The contract, awarded by the Department of Transportation of the Philippine government, is valued at US$656 million (€560 million), and has the financial backing of the Asian Development Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

The project involves the construction of a railway line with a 16-kilometre overpass in a period of four years, and is added to the contract awarded to Acciona earlier this year for the construction of another section of the same project-the last 6.5 kilometres of railway access to Clark International Airport.

The new rail line will reduce travel time between Manila and Clark International Airport to one hour. Currently, the trip can only be made by bus with a minimum travel time of more than three hours. Greenhouse gas emissions from these trips will be reduced by more than 60,000 tons annually.
