Transfesa Logistics and EPS alliance to promote fresh produce transport throughout Europe

Transfesa Logistics and Euro Pool System (EPS) have signed an agreement to promote the CoolRail service. As a result of this alliance, direct rail connections for refrigerated products expand from Valencia to several new destinations in Central, Northern and Eastern Europe.

Thus, the current Valencia-Rotterdam connection expands its network to reach many new destinations in Europe such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Czech Republic, Holland, Belgium, Scandinavia and the east of the continent, under the name “CoolRail powered by Transfesa Logistics”.

With the collaboration of DB Cargo, Transfesa Logistics’ main shareholder which owns 80 percent of the capital –Renfe owns the remaining 20 percent–, the express refrigerated transport chain will be expanded from Valencia to London. Along the same lines, the commissioning of a direct train to Cologne will make it possible to reach Scandinavia, Poland and the Czech Republic through Germany.

Transit times are around 72 hours for the United Kingdom; 48 hours for Rotterdam, the City of Brussels and Cologne; and 96 hours for Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. The service involves daily departures from Almussafes-five or six a week- with Renfe traction up to the French border.

The trains, with 30 platforms for containers, run on Iberian track gauge until the Mediterranean Corridor infrastructure to Valencia is completed, and change axles to be able to run on European tracks in 45-wagon train sets, a process that lasts about four hours.

Traction, always electric, is provided by Eurocargo Rail DB In France, DB Cargo UK in the United Kingdom and DB Cargo in the rest of Europe. The temperature of the containers is controlled throughout the route.
