The contract, awarded by MTA Long Island Rail Road for an amount of 65 million dollars (around 55 million Euros) is part of the Belmont Park redevelopment project. The new station will enhance travel opportunities between New York City and Long Island, and serve the Belmont Park Racetrack and the New York Islanders hockey team’s new arena.

The scope of the project includes the installation of platforms and a pedestrian overpass with elevators as well as various elements that comprise the station. These elements include canopies, stairs, ramps and lighting, and a portion of platform that spans over the Cross Island Parkway. The new station will incorporate several sustainability elements, and will be compliant with ADA accessibility requirements.
