The contract involves the supply of 66 new Citadis trams X05 and an option for another 22 additional trams that will be manufactured at Alstom’s plant in Santa Perpetua de Mogoda, Barcelona, with bogies provided by the site in Getafe, Madrid. The trams will run on the future lines 3 and 4, which are expected to open by end of 2023.

Lines 1 and 2 of the Casablanca tramway, in service since December 2012 and January 2019 respectively, carry around 220,000 passengers per day and Casa Transports is to extend the network with 26 kilometres of tramway lines. Alstom has previously supplied 124 Citadis trams X02, the power supply and the signalling equipment for the first two lines.

The new Citadis trams for Casablanca will operate in double units of 64 metres, which will carry up to 630 passengers each. The full low-floor and the 12 side doors will enable access for all passengers. This new generation of Casablanca tramways will be equipped with the latest passenger information systems and their design will reflect the history and culture of the city.
