The event is the main goal of the collaboration agreement between the Regional Ministry of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility of the Generalitat Valenciana, Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles (Spanish Railways Foundation), and the European Greenways Association (EGWA). In addition to the 10th European Greenways Award ceremony, there will be held an International Conference on Tourism, Cycling and Greenways and a technical visit to one of the greenways of the Valencian region.

The European Greenways Awards is a biennial event organized by the European Greenways Association since 2003 in order to stand out the best practices, initiatives and achievements related to greenways across Europe. The last edition of the Awards took place in Latvia.
