Alstom-CAF contract confirmed for supply of Paris RER B Line fleet

(17/05/2021)
In January 2021 RATP announced the selection of the consortium formed by Bombardier and CAF for the award of the supply of the 146 suburban trains that operate the RER B Line, with an option for up to 34 additional trains. Now it has been confirmed that the Alstom-CAF consortium will finally perform the MI20 contract, the award of which was notified on 5 February 2021.

This project, worth €2.56 billion, which was called for and financed by Île-de-France Mobilités, is crucial in order to make various years of headway with the order for the new RER B trains, thereby upgrading Europe's second busiest line after the RER A line. The contract involves the supply of 146 new trains that will replace the MI79 and MI84 trains that are currently in service, with delivery set to commence by the end of 2025.
