Following the assembly, held as an online meeting the past 19th of June, the members of FEDECRAIL have accepted by majority the Sóller's railway candidature to join the Federation that groups the most emblematic railways in Europe and defines them as examples of living history, of the present and the future of the continent.
The candidature of the Sóller's railway was presented at the beginning of 2020, and it was unanimously accepted last January in Brussels. After the delays caused by the pandemic, it has finally been endorsed by an overwhelming majority. The Sóller's railway presented in its candidature a journey through its history, which started from the need to break the isolation suffered by the northern Majorcan region because of the natural barrier of the Sierra de Alfábia.
