Adif and its Portuguese counterpart, Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), have signed an agreement to boost cross-border connections and strengthen collaborative relations in order to ensure the best possible interoperability of both railway systems.

Agreement between Adif and Infraestruturas de Portugal to boost cross-border connections

(29/07/2021)

The agreement updates the framework of relations focusing on the coordination of activities from both railway managers in terms of the cross-border sections they share, which are Tuy-Valença, Fuentes de Oñoro/Vilar Formoso and Badajoz-Elvas.

On the basis of this accord several specific agreements will be developed in future stages, so that the activities characteristic of each railway administrator (traffic and maintenance, as well as those belonging to supervision and safety) are carried out in an efficient and safe manner, trying to reach the greatest level of coordination and meet their users’ needs.

The border sections include the infrastructure and facilities that allow train traffic and shunting between the stations closest to the border on the networks managed by Adif and IP.

This agreement, which is valid for eight years, aims to establish the general provisions for a non-discriminatory connection of railway infrastructures between IP and Adif, promoting operation and management coordination.
