Hyperloop presents capsule for freight transport

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HyperloopTT) has presented a capsule designed for cargo transportation and autonomous electric trucks that increases the capacity and efficiency of the logistics and reduces air pollution from port-related cargo movement.

Hyperloop presents capsule for freight transport

(29/07/2021)

Designed by the Spanish consultancy firm Mormedi, this solution can replace vehicles since it can move at airplane speeds with the energy efficiency of high-speed rail. The capsule has been presented together with the Hyperport project, a joint initiative by Hyperloop and the terminal operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Aktiengesellschaft, HHLA (watch video).

The system, which would use the same technology as passenger systems, HyperloopTT’s low-pressure tubes, would reduce the space occupied by containers in ports, increasing the frequency by which containers can be released from ports and sent to their destinations, and therefore liberating urban space and reducing pollution.

The entire HyperloopTT system has the potential to generate a surplus of energy through solar panels located along the lines and stations, in addition to energy recovered during braking. Capsules are powered by battery resulting in a carbon and emission-free system.

The Hyperport project will focus on the construction of a transfer station for testing purposes, as well as a 300 feet cargo route along with a special freight capsule and loading dock.
