New edition of High-Speed Rail Atlas is published

The International Union of Railways (UIC) has published the new edition of High-Speed Rail Atlas about all high-speed lines around the world, a document coordinated by UIC and entirely produced by the Geography and Railway Traffic Research Group of the Spanish Railways Foundation (Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles) since 2016.

(14/09/2021)
The new UIC Atlas, a reference work for the railway sector published this year for free, can be downloaded in full version on the UIC website. The work includes all high-speed lines in the world: those in commercial operation, under construction, and planned in the five continents as of December 2020.

The work is a complete “X-ray” of high-speed rail in the world and addresses several variables and contents: length, network density, speeds, traffic volume, worldwide evolution, development condition of the lines, historic milestones, rolling stock, travel times and speed records.

The Atlas contains the railway geography of high speed in 43 countries which already have 400 lines already planned or in service. These indicators are developed in the 200 pages, 82 maps and 150 graphs and tables produced by the Geography and Railway Traffic Research Group of Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles in coordination with the UIC Passenger Department. This joint work is being carried out since 2016 and has already resulted in a previous world atlas, presented also in English in 2018.

The purpose of this work is to provide an overview of the high-speed railway network and its evolution throughout the years in operation, as well as to reinforce the technical and informative task of the UIC Intercity and High-Speed Committee.
