Once the first period of tests on this section is completed, the train will continue the process on the Madrid-Barcelona, Madrid-Valencia, and Madrid-Seville routes, while two more units are expected to arrive in Spain by the end of the year.

ILSA has invested 1 billion Euros in its initial fleet for Spain, made up entirely of new trains, whose production is being developed between Italy and Spain. Their propulsion systems are being manufactured at Alstom plant in Trápaga (Bizkaia), while the assembly and commissioning is done at the Hitachi Rail factory in the Italian town of Pistoia.

The train

The ETR1000 train is 200 metres long and has a capacity of up to 467 passengers. It is equipped with ERTMS/ETCS and can reach speeds of up to 360 km/h. In terms of its environmental impact, the train has only 28 grams of CO2 per passenger and kilometre, and 95% of its materials are recyclable.

Known in Italy as the Frecciarossa 1000, it has wide aisles, ergonomic seats, systems to reduce noise and vibration, and the ability to provide the latest 5G connectivity.

ILSA, owned by Air Nostrum shareholders and Trenitalia, will start operations in the second half of 2022 connecting Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Alicante, Córdoba and Malaga. Once this first stage has been completed, the company plans to open other routes in Spain and, in the medium term, explore an expansion in other European countries.
