(27/01/2022)

The base contract, awarded by Polskie Koleje Państwowe–Polskie Linie Kolejowe, has a completion time of 26 months and is valued at 69.8 million euros, which could increase to 144.2 million euros by incorporating two extension options requested by the client.

The project involves the modernisation and electrification of the line between Korsz and Ełk, as well as work in the stations and halts of Stare Juchy, Woszczele and Wydminy, with improved accessibility in all facilities, the installation of shelters, benches and lighting on the platforms, and the updating of signs and information panels.

There are also plans to replace the tracks and 61 railroad switches, rebuild 78 level crossings and pedestrian crossings, and to carry out work on 145 structures, including bridges and flyovers. With the electrification of 94 kilometres of the line, and the improvement in the Iława-Korsze line, the journey between Olsztyn and Ełk will take 1 hour and 50 minutes, half an hour less than at present.

Options

The first of the contract’s extension options would affect a section between the stations of Wydminy and Giżycko as well as the latter station, and the second would involve the construction of the aerial link line and power supply system between the stations of Ełk and Giżycko, and in the latter station.
