Latvian infrastructure manager EDZL has awarded the contract to implement stations that will serve as mobility points for different modes of transport and will put the railway at the core of the transport system in Latvia.

The project contemplates three types of stations –large, medium, and small stations– for regional services at a commercial speed of 200 km/h, with designs adapted to the traditional Baltic construction characterized by glass and wood, and using technologies to reduce emissions and meet the highest environmental requirements.

Covering a route of 870 kilometres and providing passenger and freight services, Rail Baltica will connect the main cities of the three Baltic countries from 2027. In Latvia, Rail Baltica will be 260 km long and construction works, whose deadline for bids’ submission was 31 October, are expected to start in 2023 outside Riga.
