The extension of Line 2, nearly eight kilometres long, will connect the existing Kennedy Station northeast to McCowan Road and Sheppard Avenue. The extension will include three new stations with connections to Line 5, GO train and bus services, TTC bus service and Durham Region Transit.

The Scarborough Transit Connect consortium, made up of Aecon and FCC Canada Limited (FCC), includes Mott McDonald and local architects as the designers. The consortium was selected by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario to deliver the project using a progressive design-build model, which allows for greater collaboration between the project owner, the successful bidder, project partners, and communities.
