(15/03/2023)

This project is part of the studies for the rehabilitation of the Zaragoza-Canfranc-Pau railway line, which obtained European funding within the Connecting Europe Facility 2016, and which will allow the recovery of international traffic, both passenger and freight, between Zaragoza and Pau.

The main objective of the informative study is to analyse the standard gauge freight connection from the Miraflores rail branch, which connects with the Zaragoza-Huesca railway line, to the Zaragoza Plaza logistics platform, meeting current and future transport needs and rationalizing investments.

To this end, the study analyses in detail two functional alternatives that involve, on the one hand, on those routes that already have Iberian gauge double track, the change to dual gauge on one of the tracks; and, on the other hand, on routes where there is currently single track, the duplication of the track on standard gauge in alternative A and on dual gauge in alternative B.

New application for European funds

In the last call for European funds under the Connecting Europe Facility, recently closed, a new joint project has been presented for the funding of preparatory actions for the reopening of the Pau-Canfranc-Zaragoza railway line between France and Spain, which gives continuity to the two previous projects presented in 2016 and 2019 and which once again includes a partnership between the Ministries responsible for transport in both countries; the Aragon and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions and Adif.

The proposed term for completion of the presented actions is from February 2023 to December 2025, and the total cost amounts to 18,288,394 Euros, with an expected European funding of 50 percent.
