Renfe, Kombiverkehr and Duisport bid to jointly manage La Llagosta terminal

Renfe Mercancías has teamed up with multimodal operator Kombiverkehr, a company of the German Railways (Deutsche Bahn, DB) group, and Duisburg’s inland port, Duisport, to bid for the management of the La Llagosta freight terminal.

Renfe, Kombiverkehr and Duisport bid to jointly manage La Llagosta terminal

(25/04/2023)

The selected bidder will start operating the terminal in the first half of 2025, with an operating period of 20 years, which can be extended to 40 years depending on the investment.

The La Llagosta freight terminal, in Barcelona, has an intermodal loading area of 85,200 square metres, with four 740-metre loading/unloading tracks and five 740-metre tracks for technical installations. All of them have three Iberian gauge lanes for the provision of UTI handling services, among others.

If the consortium is successful, the companies will manage a strategic logistics hub, with both Iberian and international gauge and located on the Mediterranean corridor, which would open up new opportunities for introducing new traffic to the rail network, as well as increasing the length of trains from the current average of 550 metres to 740 metres.
