This contract to supply what will be the first fleet of tri-mode trains in the United Kingdom covers the sale of the trains to Porterbrook, which subsequently will be leased to LNER. The new fleet will enter service on the East Coast Main Line. The units, extremely versatile, will run on both electrified and non-electrified sections of the network.
Each unit will consist of 10 cars based on CAF’s Civity UK platform, a train designed for intercity services. The final assembly and tests will take place at CAF’s manufacturing plant in Newport, Wales. This facility has been operative since September 2018 and it employs a workforce of approximately 220 people who are prepared for the manufacture of all types of railway vehicles.
